Unique Gemballa Porsche stands out among lots at Mecum’s Harrisburg 2026 car sale

Words: Nathan Chadwick

Mecum’s Harrisburg 2026 sale, which takes place on July 22-25, brings 1200 vehicles to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.

The vast majority is homegrown muscle and Americana – Mecum perhaps saving its more internationally focused lots for Monterey next month. However, a unique Gemballa-tuned Porsche is one for the collectors, and among the muscle cars there are some very special cars indeed. Here are a few of the highlights.

This 1980 Porsche 930 Turbo Gemballa Version II is the first of nine such conversions produced, and the only coupé among them. Completed by Gemballa during the mid-1980s, it was subsequently used in the company’s advertising and sales brochures.

Its first owner was a personal friend of Uwe Gemballa, who asked him over dinner in Stuttgart whether he would allow his 930 to become the first Version II. The car was kept in Leonberg, Germany, and driven extensively across Europe, including mountain passes in Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany and Austria.

The Version II bodywork comprises a Gemballa front bumper and spoiler with ventilation slits, integrated lamps and direction indicators, revised side sills and a matching rear bumper. It remains in highly original, unrestored condition, retaining its Fuchs wheels and period Pirelli P7 tyres. Inside, the black and white leather cabin features Recaro Idealsitz C seats with Gemballa logos and contrasting piping, similarly trimmed floor mats and a lighted digital boost gauge. A custom Gemballa centre console houses a Pioneer CD system connected to Nakamichi speakers and a Z Box speaker installation.

Power comes from the European-specification turbocharged and intercooled 3.3-litre flat-six, coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox and a Gemballa stainless-steel exhaust. The car was flown to the United States aboard Air France in 1985, then brought into EPA compliance by Classic Motors. Its metric odometer reads 71,654km. No estimate has been released.

A good example of the muscle car royalty on show at Mecum’s Harrisburg 2026 sale is this 1968 Pontiac GTO, a two-owner example equipped with the Royal Bobcat 428 package and presented following a concours-style restoration using original equipment and new old stock parts. Its 428ci V8 is paired with automatic transmission, Ram Air induction and a Hurst Dual-Gate selector.

The body is finished in a distinctive and believed unique two-tone combination of Verdoro Green and red. The exterior specification also includes tinted glass, a remote driver’s mirror and a bonnet-mounted tachometer forming part of the Rallye gauge package. Its Ivy Gold cabin is particularly comprehensively kitted out, with headrest-equipped bucket seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat and a centre console. Entertainment equipment comprises an AM/FM radio with a reverb unit, an eight-track player and separate speaker covers.

More unusually, the GTO contains an unused Sony Micro TV with its original case, instructions and plug, accompanied by a removable aerial mounted to the rear-quarter window. Further period accessories include an Instant Air package, tissue dispenser, GM compass, rubber floor mats and vanity mirrors. The car’s ownership history is known from new. No estimate has been released.

This 2002 Dodge Viper GTS Final Edition is number 14 of 360 examples produced and has covered 11,114 miles from new.
The car is also fitted with a Hennessey Venom Aero body package, along with fog lamps and BBS alloy wheels. Its black cabin contains leather bucket seats, a premium sound system and the numbered dashboard plaque identifying it as the 14th Final Edition produced. No estimate has been revealed.

This 1970 Mercury Cougar Boss 302 Eliminator is one of 323 examples produced with the Boss 302 engine. An early-production car completed on October 15, 1969, it was sold new by North Florida Motor Company in Jacksonville, Florida. Presented in Competition Orange with a black interior, the Cougar has undergone an older restoration and retains the factory Eliminator package. Its 302ci V8 was rated at 290bhp and is paired with a four-speed manual gearbox operated through a Hurst T-handle shifter. The mechanical specification also includes a Traction-Lok rear axle with a 3.50:1 final-drive ratio and power-assisted front disc brakes. Rear-seat speakers are fitted inside the cabin. No estimate has been released.

This 1964 Morgan Plus 4 Roadster was acquired in 1990 by Michael Lang, the concert promoter who co-created and organised the original Woodstock festival in 1969 before producing its 1994 and 1999 successors.

Finished in cream over a red interior, the cabin features a wood-trimmed dashboard, while the exterior is fitted with knock-off wire wheels, a luggage rack and a rear-mounted spare wheel. Power comes from a 2.1-litre Triumph inline four-cylinder engine coupled to a four-speed manual gearbox. It is offered without reserve.

This 1961 Chrysler 300G Convertible is one of 337 open examples produced for the model year. It is finished in Mardi Gras Red with a tan leather interior, and its power comes from a 413ci V8 equipped with ram induction and twin four-barrel carburettors, coupled to a pushbutton-operated automatic transmission. Further equipment includes a Golden Tone pushbutton AM radio with an electric aerial, pushbutton heating and demisting controls, a remote exterior mirror and a Jiffy Jet windscreen washer. No estimate has been released.
