1000 Miglia Experience UK expansion event heads to northern England in 2027

There are currently just three ‘Experience’ events licensed to use the 1000 Miglia name and famous red-arrow logo, but from 2027 – the 100th anniversary of the original race – there will be a fourth: the 1000 Miglia Experience UK.

This will be a five-day adventure to celebrate the legendary event’s centenary, working its way across Yorkshire and Northern England. Starting on July 21 from Harewood House in West Yorkshire, it will bring together a field of historic cars for a programme combining traditional Italian-style regularity competition along with spectacular driving roads and landmark venues.

The first edition for 2027 will be deliberately exclusive, with a target field of just 50 classic cars, supported by a small number of invited 1000 Miglia entries. At the heart of it all will be cars eligible for the 1000 Miglia, particularly machinery dating from the original 1927-57 era. These will be joined by a carefully selected field of significant post-war sports and GT machinery, ensuring that proceedings retain the visual character and historic atmosphere of the great European road events.

The new 1000 Miglia Experience UK will follow the traditions of the original Time Trials, Average Trials, Time Controls and Passage Controls, with competitors judged on precision rather than outright speed. Private estates, historic houses and closed-road or controlled locations will be used for the competitive regularity sections (crews unfamiliar with these will be offered training ahead of the start).

The Harewood House estate will play a central role, with the competing cars gathering there before being sent away beneath a purpose-built 1000 Miglia start podium. The intention is to recreate some of the theatre associated with the legendary send-off in Brescia, with the red-arrow branding, Italian Tricolore and a special 100 Years of 1000 Miglia celebration, bringing together significant machinery connected with the race’s history alongside the competing field.

From Harewood, the route heads towards the North Yorkshire Moors, including stunning locations such as Duncombe Park and Castle Howard. The second leg heads through the Yorkshire Dales, taking in roads around Grassington, Hawes and the Buttertubs Pass corridor, before continuing north towards Raby Castle and Matfen Hall. The final day returns south through County Durham and North Yorkshire, including further sporting sections before the cars arrive in Harrogate for a public finish.

The 1000 Miglia Experience UK is being developed by Club Corsa, led by Simon Smith, who has been closely involved with the 1000 Miglia through The Fast Lane Club since 2022. The event will be part of the centenary celebrations of the original Mille Miglia, which was first held in 1927, running from Brescia to Rome and back on a course of 1018 miles.

Today’s 1000 Miglia retrospective, which began in 1977, remains one of the most prestigious events in the collector car calendar. The ‘1000 Miglia’ has since become the official trademarked name, although it was first used in addition to ‘Mille Miglia’ from the very start.
