Say hello to the JAS Tensei – the Pininfarina-designed Honda NSX restomod that we teased a few weeks ago. Tensei means ‘rebirth’ in Japanese; the name and reveal were shown to customers at an event run by JAS Asian Sales Partner SPS Global Ltd at Fuji Raceway back in November, and the full details have now been announced.

Pininfarina has created an entirely new carbonfibre body for the JAS Tansei, with each car beginning as an early-1990s NSX donor chassis. Buyers will be able to choose either left- or right-hand drive. Beneath the surface, extensive mechanical revisions are planned, drawing directly on JAS Motorsport’s engineering experience. Production will take place in very small numbers at the company’s Arluno facility near Milan.

The JAS Tansei is powered by a naturally aspirated V6 derived from the original NSX unit, but reworked by JAS to deliver quicker response, increased output and stronger torque. A six-speed manual gearbox completes the powertrain.
Although no interior images have been issued so far, the cabin is said to follow the layout of the first-generation NSX. Pininfarina has reimagined the design with the intention of what it describes as preserving the core NSX principle established 35 years ago: a focus on clear communication between car and driver, and an experience that encourages genuine engagement behind the wheel.
No further details on the mechanical changes have been announced as yet, but JAS has a long history of working with Honda in motor sport roles – it produced the GT3 version of the latest Honda NSX.
