The first-ever Koenigsegg prototype is set to star at the inaugural Royal Bahrain Concours, which is due to take place on November 7-8, 2025.
The original CC prototype was developed from hand-drawn sketches by Christian von Koenigsegg, and then translated into a one-fifth scale model by industrial designer David Crafoord before full construction began in 1994. It featured many of the design elements that define Koenigsegg cars today, including a removable hard-top, dihedral synchro-helix doors, and a semi-carbonfibre monocoque with integrated chromolybdenum tube subframes.
This prototype is powered by a hand-built 4.2-litre Audi V8 paired with a gated six-speed manual transmission. The car’s metallic bronze bodywork originated from a miscommunication during painting, which resulted in a distinctive colour different from the originally intended bright burnt orange from a Volvo C70.
By 2019 the prototype was considered lost – until it was located by Gaurav Dhar, custodian of the Numero Uno collection, following four years of research and investigation. Dhar traced the car to the Motala Museum in Sweden, where it had been preserved. After acquisition, the prototype underwent careful mechanical recommissioning supervised by members of the original Koenigsegg team. The restoration focused on mechanical reliability while retaining the original paint and interior to preserve authenticity.

The Koenigsegg CC prototype will be part of a collection of 90 collector cars at the Royal Bahrain Concours, along with an additional 300 vehicles from car clubs across the GCC. The two-day programme includes The Prestige Day on Friday November 7, featuring the presentation of the leading cars on the Concours stage, followed by Awards Day on Saturday November 8, when all class winners and Best of Show will be awarded.
