Motor Racing Legends (MRL) has announced a new Historic racing category, Endurance Icons, which celebrates prototypes and GT machinery from 1995 to 2012. This was a period that saw substantial growth in international sports car racing and ultimately led to the re-establishment of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012. It boasted a range of machinery from the McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR of the 1990s to the hugely successful Audi R8 prototypes and Maserati MC12s of the 2000s, with plenty of interesting oddities along the way.
The new Endurance Icons series will adopt a class structure based on period regulations, with adjustments made to suit an Historic environment. It will accommodate a range of Le Mans-style prototypes and GT cars from the era of the FIA GT Championship. Hybrid vehicles will not be eligible, although some later non-hybrid models may be admitted subject to review.

According to Motor Racing Legends, the initiative forms part of the organisation’s ongoing effort to offer owners the opportunity to run their cars in a professionally managed and supportive setting. MRL says the emphasis will remain on careful stewardship of the vehicles and competition that reflects their individual histories.

Endurance Icons is scheduled to make its debut at the BRDC Classic, held on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on July 24-26, 2026.
“This era produced some of the most incredible endurance racing cars of all time, so it’s hugely exciting to welcome them into the Motor Racing Legends family,” said Pierre-Antoine Lecoutour, MRL’s CEO. “Speaking purely as a fan, I have strong memories of these cars racing in their heyday, and I’m thrilled we’re bringing them to the first-ever BRDC Classic, at which Motor Racing Legends will have a very strong presence.”
More details on the full season are promised soon, and additional information on Endurance Legends can be found here.
