Jensen Interceptor reborn as super-GT for the modern age – with a V8

As the Jensen Interceptor celebrates 60 years since its introduction, the legendary nameplate has been brought back to life with an all-new car from Jensen International Automotive (JIA).

JIA is best known for restoring and modifying original Jensen Interceptors, with its R models using Chevrolet V8s in either naturally aspirated or supercharged form. The new car, however, will be entirely different, although it is said to be inspired by the original. While details on the drivetrain are as yet unclear, other than it having a ‘bespoke’ V8 powerplant, the car will have an aluminium chassis and is promised to deliver an analogue driving experience.

The newcomer will be hand-built in the UK, with low production numbers, as a separate venture from JIA’s more traditional output. The team is at pains to stress that the new car will not be a restomod or a Continuation.

“Taking the theme of the luxury British GT to fresh, thoroughly modern heights, JIA’s first car is designed and engineered from the ground up to deliver an unmatched, deeply immersive, V8-powered driving experience,” said JIA managing director David Duerden. “While it takes inspiration from the Jensen Interceptor launched 60 years ago, this is certainly no restomod or Continuation, and it will stand proudly as a completely all-new car in its own right.”
