The new M24 – Museum of Motorsport at the Le Mans circuit has been officially opened and we have the first pictures of the interior here for you.

As explained here, M24 is actually a significant extension and revamp of the existing Le Mans museum, which had been looking tired and dated for some time. Built in collaboration with Richard Mille, founder of the eponymous watch company, many of whose cars now feature in the displays.

The museum first opened 1961 and was overhauled in 1991 by the local council. It was taken over by the ACO in 2017 and five years later a new organisation to oversee the museum, MACO, was created as the result of the collaboration between the ACO and Richard Mille. Now, the exhibition space has been extended by approximately one third to 8600 square metres and the original building has been facelifted and reroofed in zinc, while a green roof has been added to the new extension.

In the new images you can see the various themed areas, which include Scrutineering, The Start, The Night and The Victory. These are the Le Mans and endurance racing sections of the museum. The second section of the museum concentrates on Formula 1, IndyCar and rallying.

The old museum was always great to visit, especially when rain hit the circuit, but M24 is in another league, with more cars and more exhibits. We’ll be back there as soon as we can.
