Goodwood Road Racing Club to launch in the United States, starting in California in 2027

Words: Nathan Chadwick

Goodwood will expand the Goodwood Road Racing Club into the United States, beginning with a California-based membership programme in 2027.
Announced at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Goodwood Road Racing Club of America will be the organisation’s first operation outside the UK. California will serve as the starting point for a wider planned expansion across the United States. Founded nearly 30 years ago, the UK-based GRRC gives members access to Goodwood events, driving activities and other automotive experiences. Its American counterpart will follow a similar structure, with a year-round programme designed around participation rather than a particular marque, period or category of car.

Initial activities will take place across California and Nevada. Goodwood plans to organise track days, driving tours, private visits and social gatherings, with the club’s first track event scheduled to take place at Willow Springs in 2028. The programme will also include a principal annual event in California, drawing on American motorsport and car culture. Goodwood has not yet disclosed the format, venue or date, but said members and their cars would form a central part of the event. American members will also receive reciprocal access to Goodwood activities in the UK. Full details of the membership structure, benefits and event calendar will be announced later. Sir Jackie Stewart, Mario Andretti and Richard Petty have been named as the founding patrons of the American club. All three have longstanding associations with Goodwood and have appeared at its events.

Goodwood announced the expansion during a Festival of Speed programme celebrating American motorsport and the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. The organisation also cited historic links between the Goodwood Estate and the United States. The third Duke of Richmond, known as the Radical Duke, supported American independence during the 18th century and worked with political writer Thomas Paine. The Duke of Richmond said the American expansion represented a significant step for the organisation.
“For almost 30 years, the GRRC has been at the heart of everything we do at Goodwood, a diverse community brought together by a shared passion for cars and motorsport of every genre,” he said. “With California as our starting point, our aim is to create something genuinely new, a club built around access, experiences and a sense of belonging for enthusiasts in America.”
