Two historically significant Ford-powered competition cars will headline Bonhams’ forthcoming Laguna Seca Auction, to be held on August 13, 2026 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as an integral part of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion Historic race festival. It will Bonhams’ first Monterey Car Week auction held away from The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering – more details on that can be found here.
First up is the unique Lola-Ford T70 Mark II CanAm sports-racing machine, driven in period by Dan Gurney. At the wheel of this car Gurney secured victory in the second round of the 1967 CanAm Championship at Bridgehampton, marking the only Ford-powered win during the original nine-season run of the series from 1966-1974.
Entered by All American Racers, the car is equipped with a small-block Ford 305ci V8 engine coupled to a Hewland LG transaxle. Notable surviving features include a modified rear cockpit bulkhead, developed by the team to accommodate Gurney’s height. The car is described as retaining a well preserved historic patina.

Also confirmed for Bonhams’ Laguna Seca Auction 2026 is the 1967 Vollstedt-Ford 67B IndyCar, driven by Jim Clark. Although closely associated with Lotus machinery throughout his Formula 1 career, Clark competed in the Vollstedt at the Rex Mays 300 at Riverside in November 1967, where he led before retiring due to engine issues.
Powered by a Ford 4.2-litre four-cam V8 producing around 500bhp, the Vollstedt was campaigned by constructor Rolla Vollstedt between 1967 and 1969. Over a reported 30-race career, the car was also driven by a number of notable names, including Gordon Johncock, Tom Sneva, George Follmer, John Cannon and Chris Amon.

The Vollstedt team, founded by Indianapolis local Rolla, established itself in the 1950s, building and running front-engined roadsters for the Indianapolis 500 and wider USAC Championship.

The Bonhams Monterey preview days are on August 11-12, 2026, with the auction itself kicking off on Thursday, August 13. Consignments continue to be invited.
