The 80th Goodwood Members’ Meeting will host a special on-track demonstration of the Brabham-BMW BT52 Formula 1 car that Nelson Piquet used to claim his second title in 1983.

Before the ’83 season began, Piquet’s 1000bhp BT52 is said to have lapped the Goodwood Motor Circuit in under one minute during pre-season testing.

While no official record exists, the “greatest lap of Goodwood” remains the fastest-known lap set at the venue. The BT52 is also renowned for being the first turbocharged F1 car to win the World Championship.

A key reason why the BT52 was so fast was down to the engineering brilliance of its designer, Professor Gordon Murray, who will be reunited with the car alongside former Brabham team manager Herbie Blash.

The special on-track demonstration marks both the 80th edition of the Members’ Meeting and 75 years of Goodwood’s motor sport heritage.

The event takes place in West Sussex, UK, on April 15-16, 2023. Tickets are available for purchase by Members and Fellows of the Goodwood Road and Racing Club here.
