Wedgy concept cars that pushed the boundaries of automotive design are set to star in the Petersen Automotive Museum’s upcoming exhibit: The Wedge Revolution: Cars on the Cutting Edge. The world-renowned Los Angeles-based institution has confirmed that the exhibition will open to the public on August 2 through September 2025.

The Wedge Revolution, which will be based in the museum’s design gallery, has been co-curated by Tesla chief designer and wedge design expert Franz von Holzhausen. It will showcase myriad vehicles that are emblematic of the angular, futuristic styling that shaped automotive design from the late 1960s to 1980s.

The display opens with striking machines such as the 1966 Cannara I and 1970 Lancia Stratos Zero, which mark the transition in automotive design from chrome-finished curves to angular, aerodynamically inspired silhouettes.

As the exhibition progresses, visitors can trace the philosophies of legendary designers including Marcello Gandini, William Towns and Giorgetto Giugiaro through iconic machines such as the 1974 Lamborghini Countach LP400 Periscopio, 1979 Aston Martin Bulldog and 1976 Chevrolet Aerovette – with wedge-influenced design enduring into the modern era via the Tesla Cybertruck and 2016 Lo-Res Car.

“The wedge era produced some of the most daring and forward-thinking designs in automotive history,” said Petersen Automotive Museum executive director Terry L Karges. “This exhibit allows visitors to see how wedge design continues to influence the vehicles we see on the road today.”
