Say hello to Singer Vehicle Design’s latest creation: a reimagined 911 Carrera Coupé developed with engineering from Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Cosworth.

The 911 Carrera Coupé Reimagined by Singer – to use its full name – was inspired by the rare wide-body 964 Carrera from the 1980s that was designed with high-performance road and track driving in mind.

“In the 1980s, you could order a new 911 Carrera with the pumped-up bodywork of the Turbo but powered by the company’s latest naturally aspirated flat-six,” explained Singer founder and creative director Rob Dickinson. “Our services reference this car and celebrate the era with a vision for an ultimate, naturally aspirated G-model 911, reimagined for the 21st century.”

Each 911 Carrera Coupé build begins when a 964 owner sends their car to Singer’s Los Angeles headquarters, where the bespoke restoration process gets underway.

The owner’s car is then fastidiously disassembled down to its bare monocoque. Singer engineers then assess, clean and prepare the chassis, readying it for reinforcement to specifications developed in collaboration with Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

The next phase of the transformation sees Singer focus on the 964’s powertrain, drawing on decades of 911 expertise and insights gained during the recent DLS program, which led to the development of its first four-valve cylinder head. Tantalisingly, the 4.0-litre, 420bhp naturally aspirated flat-six was developed in collaboration with legendary engine builder Cosworth.

It’s the first engine restored for a Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer to feature variable valve timing and the brand’s first naturally aspirated powerplant to combine water-cooled cylinder heads with air-cooled cylinders – a configuration first introduced on the DLS Turbo. These innovations help deliver stronger torque across a wider rev range while allowing the engine to scream beyond 8000rpm – which will undoubtedly sound glorious through the car’s titanium exhaust.

Keen drivers can pair the high-revving flat-six with a six-speed manual gearbox, optionally specified with a raised gear lever and exposed shift mechanism. This can be paired with lightweight sports or track seats and complemented by a dizzying array of bespoke paint, leather and material finishes.

Singer reimagines the classic 964 widebody with extensive use of carbonfibre, reducing mass and increasing stiffness. The bodywork is inspired by the Super Sport Equipment option that was available in period and features a deep front spoiler to optimise both cooling and aerodynamics, as well as intakes to direct cold air into the engine bay.

Like the original, the Carrera Coupé can be specified with or without Porsche’s iconic whale tail rear spoiler. Buyers have a choice between a fixed wing or a speed-activated version to enhance high-speed stability. Optional auxiliary driving lights – which rise from the bonnet when in use and retract flush when not – can also be added.

Such is the scope of the personalisation options that Singer created two examples for its press release: one in Touring specification, featuring a refined interior with velvet corduroy seats and a speed-activated rear wing; the other in a more performance-focused Sports specification, equipped with lightweight track seats, a fixed rear wing, and high-performance auxiliary lighting. Owners can also opt to order both sets of front and rear bodywork – delivered in a bespoke flight case – if they wish to change the car’s configuration on the fly.

The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé Reimagined by Singer will be limited to just 100 commissions, with pricing remaining undisclosed. For more information, click here.
