The Big Cat’s rebirth as an EV manufacturer has reached a significant milestone with the unveiling of the Jaguar Type 01 luxury GT. Designed and built in the UK on the marque’s new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA) platform, the 1016bhp four-door is the most powerful road car the marque has ever made, and the production version of the controversial Type 00 concept of 2024.
According to Jaguar, the Type 01 is the most technically advanced car it has ever produced, with more than 360 patent applications filed during its development. Aesthetically, it stays remarkably close to the radical, monolithic styling of the concept.
“From its dramatic design to its captivating drive, Type 01 distils the essence of Jaguar into a car for a new era,” says managing director Rawdon Glover. “Jaguars should be objects of desire and culturally relevant – that’s their natural habitat and where Jaguar is returning.”

Power comes from three electric motors. A 260kW unit drives the front axle and a pair of 310kW motors power the rear. Together they produce 1007lb ft of torque, enough for 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds.
Rolling acceleration is just as impressive, with 62-112mph taking only 4.0 seconds. At a 62mph cruise, the Type 01 uses a mere two percent of its available power. Its inverters and traction software draw on lessons from Jaguar’s championship-winning Formula E team.
The Type 01 has a 118kWh usable battery and an 850-volt architecture, giving a WLTP range of up to 450 miles. Jaguar also quotes up to 320 miles at a steady 75mph. Helping that is a drag coefficient of 0.23Cd, which belies the car’s angular styling and beats the drag coefficient of the original Honda Insight, along with rear motors that switch off when cruising.

Hooked up to a 350kW rapid charger, the Type 01 can add up to 200 miles of range in around 13 minutes, or charge from ten to 80 percent in 22 minutes. The car can still charge at up to 250kW on older 400-volt chargers, and there’s an AC charging port on each side of the vehicle. The battery is covered by an eight-year, 100,000-mile warranty.
At 5235mm long, the Type 01 is just 17mm shorter than a long-wheelbase Range Rover. It is, however, only 1403mm tall – identical to a G87 BMW M2 – with its 23-inch wheels taking up more than half its height.
The distance from the front axle to the front door – the “luxury gap”, in Jaguar PR speak – makes up 17 percent of the car’s length, almost exactly the same proportion as the E-type. Up front are the slimmest headlights ever fitted to a Jaguar, at just 84mm tall, while the rear end mirrors that of the concept with a solid, glassless tailgate and tail-lights that stay hidden until lit.

One of the car’s most impressive engineering details is dubbed the Impossible Panel. This aluminium rear quarter panel brings five planes and three feature lines together at a single point, requiring more than 1500 hours to perfect. The panel is pressed at Halewood in a six-stage process using 2500 tonnes of pressure from a press measuring four storeys tall. The frameless doors close against it with no trim or visible seals, adding to the car’s clean exterior aesthetic.
“It’s unmistakable from every angle and exquisitely crafted inside and out, with dramatic proportions, innovative details and sophisticated surfaces,” says design development director Andrew Wheel.
Inside, a brass-effect spine runs the length of the interior, splitting it into four individual seats. The driver sits behind a 24-inch OLED display, while a smartphone-style seven-inch touchscreen between the front seats is responsible for climate and audio controls. The front seats are heated and cooled, with a hot-stone massage function, and a chromatic panoramic glass roof is standard fitment.

With no rear window, the Type 01 swaps a traditional rear-view mirror for a camera display set into a full-width soundbar along the base of the windscreen. The soundbar houses 13 of the 38 speakers in the car’s Meridian sound system, and the front seats can pulse in time with the music.
Customers can choose from seven exterior colours and three interior colourways at launch, alongside a choice of 23- or 21-inch alloy wheels. Jaguar cites the Design Vision edition as the “purest version” of the car, finished in a Visionary Silver Satin with unique 23-inch wheels and an Orchid White interior. The manufacturer is also offering an exclusive collection of Chromatic Moments cars, limited to just 60 examples worldwide and finished in either French Ultramarine Blue or London Red.
The order book is expected to open in early 2027, with first deliveries due in the second half of the year. Pricing is yet to be confirmed.
